Lorraine Moore, from Ballyclare, had been crafting quilts, cushions, bed runners and handbags for five years before she set up Lorraine’s Handbags in April 2017.
Now she hand makes handbags and accessories such as wallets, purses, makeup bags, lunch bags, handbag organisers, handbag charms and sells them mainly online through Facebook and Instagram.
Like many craft businesses, a typical day for Lorraine isn’t just about crafting. She starts at around 8.00am, looking at emails and checking for new orders. After emailing customers with updates, she places orders for fabric and supplies, updates her social media and searches for new Craft Fairs. Once all that is done, she moves into the sewing room and to the cutting table, designing, cutting and sewing.
“I had been making bespoke handbags for family and friends for special occasions like weddings, christenings, graduations and someone suggested to me that because my handbags were unique, other people would be interested in them and that I should sell them. I love making my handbags, creating new shapes and designs. I love fabric, I never get tired of seeing all the gorgeous designs, textures and colours. My customers get to choose their own fabric and design and I love to see how excited and happy they are when I present them with their own bespoke handbag. When you love what you do, it’s not like work. No two days are ever the same.”
